Being creative was a natural part of my childhood.
I grew up by the harbour in Sydney, where my family included artists and illustrators passionate about creating paintings, clothing, and interior designs. After becoming a parent, I embraced the opportunity to attend art school. It felt like a homecoming.
Now, living on an island, somewhat removed from the rest of the world, provides me with space and time. It allows me the freedom to engage in a way of making that interests me most – a slow and contemplative approach.
Tasmania/lutruwita is a place of raw beauty and powerful, elemental landscapes. It strips everything back to its essence. I discard what is extraneous and unnecessary. Consequently, my work has evolved towards a minimalist form of abstraction with compositions rich in colour, geometric form and a sense of space.
At times, I enter a state of ‘no thought’, and in those moments my practice becomes a form of meditation. Zen Buddhism is a source of inspiration slowly finding its way into my work. Or perhaps I am finding my way into Zen through my work?
