I appreciate the isolation of living in the countryside.
Much of my art is inspired by what I see around me on the North West Coast. Sometimes our weather, being not too extreme, is conducive to working inside. If it were sunnier, I may escape to the garden. Getting art materials, expensive freight, and the lack of galleries are a handicap.
My work is figurative. The Tasmanian landscape, birds, and native plants form the bulk of my work. But I have also painted and made prints of other countries I have visited; France, Italy, Mexico and Russia.
My journey into art has been a meandering track with many dead ends, disappointments, and the occasional triumph. The main pleasure comes from working – from painting a picture that I like, or doing a linocut that works out better than I imagined. There are many failures along the way but, like Ol’ Man River, I just keep rolling along…
