Anna’s work examines the idea of preciousness and what makes something hold value for a person. The thought that materials drawn from the earth, such as metal and stones, are considered far less valuable until we have altered and manipulated them is an intriguing one. A beautiful rough diamond or sapphire really doesn’t gain much value until it has been faceted and polished, although some might say that at this point it loses its personality. In contrast, a piece of jewellery can completely lack value in a monetary sense but it is the emotions and sentiment imprinted onto that piece that makes it precious to the wearer. Jewellery is often self referential and speaks to and of the person that wears it as a means of self expression and in this way she believes it may hold its greatest value and preciousness.
