My work is based on the symbolic notion of journeys and the symbols of my Norwegian ancestry. Whilst the garments are often flowing there are always strong references to the human shape beneath.
The combination of wool with the human form is essential for me.
I am particularly fascinated by the combination of the highly structured shapes of Western garments and the unstructured designs of the East exemplified by Kimonos.
I am inspired by the traditional patterning of woven textiles and the opportunities they offer when designing knitted cloth.
I have a multi-dimensional approach to design, where the shaping and sculptural form of the garment is as important as the colouring and conformation of its interior patterns.
