I hope my paintings affirm holistic human values.

I learnt to sew and knit at the same time as learning to read and write. So the thread-like way of applying paint comes naturally to me; it’s a kind of calligraphy. Thread is also a means of connection and of repair, and I like working with that metaphor.

I did not begin my formal arts training until I was in my late 30s but, looking back, I can see that my life was always heading that way.

My arts practice came into focus when I moved to Hobart in 2004 from Darwin. Here, I have found a warm and supportive community of friends in the arts, and a great gallery in Handmark. I love the fact that, although I live in a city, I can walk to the end of my street and be in bushland. The connection to the natural world is very important to me.

In my work, themes emerge intuitively rather than by design. Essentially, the paintings are about how we relate to one another and within the biosphere.
