Nathan Grey Painter
I would describe my work as a lazy perfectionist’s take on impressionism.
My favourite subject is people. I enjoy painting with minimal marks to capture a person’s gaze, gesture, and mood. I was always a good drawer, and the natural progression from drawing is painting.
After I finished art school in 2009 I moved to North America for the outdoors. I continued to paint while I was away, and sold just enough paintings to survive. I am now studying to become an art teacher and pass on what I have learnt to the next generation.
As a figurative painter, my work is not directly influenced by our unique landscape. However, I feel lucky to have grown up here. The more I travel, the more I realise how good life is here. Access to clean air, water, mountains, beaches, and good produce make this place pretty special.
