Living and working in converted stables imbues a sense of history into the process of painting.

I’m interested in the use of animals in an allegorical sense, where the intent is to reveal several meanings – sometimes referencing the concept of animals as ‘stand-ins’ for humans. My work explores the juxtaposition of human behaviour and the natural environment, and the disparity between the two. The Tasmanian landscape and lifestyle are conducive to the style and subject of my work

My creativity developed in early childhood with both parents involved in the arts. My father was a highly skilled musician and mother a talented actor in theatrical performance, moving the family from New Zealand to Sydney to pursue their ambitions. My own artistic expression grew from those early years through other creative outlets, and the decision to become a painter.
