Toby Muir Wilson has for nearly forty years worked with wood to create furniture, boxes, turning and sculptural pieces. Landscape, flora and fauna have provided recurring inspiration especially from those areas visited whilst walking or travelling around Tasmania. The techniques of cabinetmaking, carving and turning are combined with Tasmanian timbers and colour. Toby’s designs develop a narrative which allows people to experience these landscapes. Underlying this is a need to retain some function in the object, a nod to the influence of the British Arts and Crafts movement of his training.
